General objectives
The SEISMOCODE project developed a complex e-learning platform to support the lifelong learning in civil engineering, focused on the seismic conception and design of buildings, an issue with countrywide technical, economical and social impact. The national code, P100-1, represents the fundamental regulatory document for the seismic design of building structures, with mandatory countrywide application. The application of the harmonized national code, P100-1, (whose provisions are compliant to the EC Construction Products Directive) is compulsory in Romania. Consequently, the provisions of P100 are mandatory and prevail upon those of Eurocode 8, for national application. For this reason, the content of the platform focused primarily on the Romanian code, P100 1, but also references in parallel, in the appropriate sections, the provisions of the homologue European standard, Eurocode 8, part 1, and of its National Annex. Given the numerous similitudes between the Romanian and the European regulations, this goal provides multiple benefits. Reference to other Romanian and European standards, connected to the contents of the platform, is also provided. Thus, the platform contributes, by its use, to the development and improvement of the skills of the professionals in the field, with direct consequences for the reduction of the seismic risk of buildings, and, as a result, with beneficial impact to citizens' quality of life.
Results
The SEISMOCODE project was completed, having the following outcomes:
- Development of a complex e-learning platform to support the practical implementation of the newly-adopted Romanian code for the design of buildings for earthquake resistance, P100-1/2013, harmonized with the homologous European standard, Eurocode 8, part 1 (EN1998-1:2004);
- Creation of an online, systematic and structured body of engineering knowledge in the field of seismic conception and design of buildings, that the platform users can continually enrich by their own contributions;
- Development of interactive training and (self-)assessment modules, supporting the assimilation of the new regulations;
- Creation of a multimedia resources collection in the field of modern conception and design of buildings;
- Creation of a virtual space for professional discussions on the present and future development and improvement of seismic design regulations for reinforced concrete buildings and on the seismic risk mitigation measures; this space also represents an important interaction channel with platform users and other stakeholders.
